Saints Row IV has become the first game in Australia be be refused classification under the Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games which commenced on January 1st, 2013. As a result, Saints Row IV is banned in Australia and would not see an Australian release come August 22nd, 2013.

According to the media release issued by the Australian Government Classification Board, Saints Row IV was refused the maximum R18+ classification due to its implied sexual violence and related drug use.

In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines.”

Since the introduction of the new guidelines, Australia has granted the maximum R18+ rating to 17 games which includes Metro: Last Light, Ride to Hell: Retribution and The Last of Us.

Saints Row IV is scheduled to be released worldwide on August 22nd 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
