The Creative Director of God of War II joins Crystal Dynamics
After developing adventures for the great Kratos, Cory Barlog is moving on to another gaming icon, Lara Croft. Before leaving Sony in 2007, Barlog served as writer and director for God of War II, creative director for Chains of Olympus and head of story creation for Ghost of Sparta. He now joins the Crystal Dynamics team namely for the highly anticipated Tomb Raider reboot set to come out later this year.
The head of Crystal Dynamics, Darrel Gallagher commented on the studio’s acquisition of Barlog:
Crystal has pulled together some of the best teams in the industry to deliver against upcoming projects and future IP…Cory’s heritage in building industry defining action adventure titles, together with our focus on delivering quality character driven blockbuster entertainment makes Cory a tremendously exciting addition to the team.
It was also disclosed that Mr. Barlog will also be working on a title that has yet to be named. With his pedigree, Barlog would serve best in the action-adventure genre that he has so brilliantly impacted already. One has to wonder with Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix studios revamping and reloading-is there maybe another reboot in the works? Mayhaps…the Soul Reaver series? Should be incredibly interesting to watch this story as it develops.
