While retailers have been having stellar deals for the Playstation 3D Displays, buyers have been reporting issues with the displays.
It was first reported back in December 2011 that the displays were experiencing some technical issues. While at the time the issue wasn’t that big, that same thread now has nearly 500 replies with the majority of them stating that their display have been experiencing some issues such as; back-light bleeding, red blinking light of death, and black screens that happen randomly, and sometimes permanently. This has prompted users to contact Sony.
Sony has assisted these users, however, though they are sent a refurbished model the issue is still not yet fixed. Some users have claimed that they have gone through 2-5 sets already. The most common report though is that the displays seem to be experiencing these issues only after 2-5 months of use.
One user even went as far as to take the set apart himself to see if he could find the cause of all this:
Though this isn’t a fix, according to a reply, customer support has recommended that you take these steps to ensure that the Playstation 3 didn’t just reset the resolution on it’s own.
1. Turn your ps3 off and unlug your display from its power supply.
2. Remove hdmi cables and make sure there not broken or bent.
3. Plug back the HDMI cable to the console and plug your power cable back on the display and then turn it on.
4. Now at all this the ps3 should still be off, now press and hold the ps3 button down, you will hear 2 beeps one for pressing the button and the other for keeping the button held down. once you hear that second beep release the button ( RELEASE ) lol…
5. Now you should be all set you will see on your display the setup for using the device, follow the instructions and you wont go wrong.
Even some reviews on Amazon.com show that the displays may be having issues.

Happened to me today. After a few hours it returned to normal. Someone needs to provide phone numbers to get this issue resolved. I read in the manual that these TVs aren’t owned by Sony. Don’t know how that’s possible but that is what the manual claims.
Anyway the forums all over the net provide dead ends and NO answers. We need to find out who actually is hiding behind Sony’s brand name or get a lawsuit started. There is no way these guys can get away with selling a 300-600 TV with a 4 month life span and think they can just walk away.
For anyone who needs to know, the warning signs are clear. Occasional blackouts while gaming is an instant red flag for your TV. According to the forums it only gets worse. Very, very high failure rates with many customers reporting no help (or lies about helping) from Sony. Also there have been reports of “dead pixels” on these TVs out of the box. My suggestion is to stop buying these sets. It’s not worth the risk.
Hmm, that must kind of suck, especially since 3D TVs aren’t exactly cheap.
Hopefully, Sony calls out the incompetent people making these crappy TVs and get them to start fixing their expensive displays.
Dude how did you fix it so it went back to normal, I’m trying svasta, drZO the ignition button and enter, leave it a couple of hours to be shut down and so does nothing!!!! what to do, I bought it in another country it’s kind of complicated to be back : (, I place I never expected this from Sony
Went to GameStop yesterday. They would not even sell me the extended warranty. What does that tell us?! What a shame at 179.99 I was very excited but will not buy it.
The reason they didn’t sell you the extended warranty is because the monitor is now most likely discontinued. even the 3d glasses are as cheap as $25 if i remember correctly. got another pair for myself at gamestop for $30. even mine is starting to do the whole black screen thing. does it for both my ps3 and pc. oh well i got my ps3 3d display at best buy and it is under warranty.
I’ve the screen black out problem. I called ps support and they said is my ps3 freezing. They told me how to get into safe mode and do a FILE SYSTEM CHECK becouse it might be corrupted. Indeed it was but that didnt fix it. I still have the same issue. Only happens when it’s on for more than 1 hour. I could be playing games or in the ps3 main menu.
Please help me and how do I fix my PlayStation 3D display, appearing HAS TWO RED LIGHTS, this is the right scheme for repair, what is labeled with the fuse, I would be very grateful if you answer me who
How can this be legal.Sony has an obligation to fix these sets.
I’m on my second one.first one quit working after a month of casual
use.Sony r.m.a it and I received a different unit fast.So now what’s going to happen? It makes
It just past the warranty then I’m out of luck.200+ dollars down the drain. It really Is a nice display when its working.I deserve to have a dependable display for the hard earned money I
spent.Very frustrating wish someone would do something about this.
Sony has never been the best customer support and i have had my 3d tv for 5 days and i have the same problem.. No wonder these tvs are so cheap!! Buy a regular led tv people clearly sony doesnt make these official ps3 tvs im going to start a lawsuit got my family as professional lawyers….
I Totally Agreed a lawsuit should be put into place because I have a PS3 3-D display unit myself I have not had it for even eight months yet and this is the fourth time that it is being sent in for service this is ridiculous. First the screen Blacking out every so often second the 3-D actually would not work third pixels are burnt out and forth now it will not even turn on it just blinks red.
ive had my display for about 3 months and I plugged it into a powerbar since i started using it.well i accidently turned the powerbar off and the i turned it back on. so i went to play and it started up just like normal til the green light came then all of a sudden it started blinking twice every 2 seconds dang i got mine as a present i just wish that stuff could be easier to replace
